URGENT: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Donations + Volunteerism
We’re reaching out to understand your ability and capacity to donate PPEs and volunteer, so we can maximize your impact and get those supplies to those who most urgently need it. COMPLETE SURVEY
Health-care workers need to access remaining supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) in Ontario. Dentists want to help our colleagues who are on the front lines of saving lives. For more details, visit the member website.
We know that dentists want to be able connect with patients during a time when routine visits are discouraged. The ODA and RCDSO are working together, in collaboration with the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), to give dentists as much clarity as possible about teledentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic and moving forward. The dental coding system is uniform throughout Canada, so a national solution is required. The CDA is working with the Canadian Dental Regulatory Authorities Federation and the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association to determine if new procedure codes should be created. This issue is a top priority for the ODA in the time ahead and we will update members about our progress.
The ODA continues to engage CDSPI on behalf of members. We have heard from CDSPI that they are actively working on getting clarity on pandemic insurance coverage for dentists. A communication from CDSPI on this issue is expected in the coming days.
New Resources Available
Visit the COVID-19 page on the member website for the latest updates and new resources, including guidelines from the Ministry of Health, directives from the Chief Medical Officer and employment resources.
Canada Emergency Response Benefit
Today, the Government of Canada announced the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), which would provide $2,000 a month for up to four months for workers who lose income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CERB is designed as a simpler and more accessible way to access benefits, and will cover wage earners, contract workers and self-employed individuals who would not otherwise be eligible for Employment Insurance. We’re actively reminding the public why most dental offices are closed right now, what constitutes a dental emergency, and how to access emergency care. Please see our public website. A media release on this topic will be issued this evening and will be posted to the public website after its release.
Due to the government shutdown of all non-essential services across the province to slow the spread of COVID-19, the ODA offices in Toronto are now closed. We remain committed to offering you the same level of excellent customer service, we’re just doing it remotely, so please bear with us. If you need to send us information or documents, please send it electronically. Faxing or mailing anything to us will mean delays in our ability to respond to you.
